About Me

June 5th, 2005

Welcome.

If you clicked here, you’re probably interested in a bit about me. So, who am I?

At work, I am an User Experience Consultant specializing in Interaction Design. Basically, I work with customers to determine what types of products they would find useful and then I help businesses design those products so that they are usable and remain useful.

At home, I am a husband and proud father of two wonderful dogs: Foxie and Scooter. Foxie is a mutt and Scooter is an American Eskimo. They are both spoiled rotten…I blame this on my wife who, in turn, blames it on me. (For the record, it really is her fault.)

I have a background in psychology, which is to say I graduated college with a degree in psychology and have always had an interest in the workings of human relationships—particularly the workings of myself and how I relate to other people.

My interest in self improvement has led me to reading some excellent books, including The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Getting Things Done, Never Eat Alone, War of Art, Getting to Yes, and others. In my studies, I’ve come to realize, as I’m sure so many of you have, that the these “soft” skills—or life skills as I have come to call them—determine how successful we are. Sure, our hard skills—those that people will actually pay you for—matter, but they alone will get you nowhere.

What are those life skills that can open the doors to success? Well, I’m not entirely sure what an exhaustive list would look like. So far, I think the term life skills includes time management, self discipline, interpersonal communication, and creativity. There are certainly others, but I won’t recognize them as life skills until, well, my context is ready to recognize them as life skills.

I started this blog to help me better learn these life skills. After all, the best way to learn something is to teach it. So, here I am, teaching and learning.

Welcome.
